It was over 35 years ago and I can remember it perfectly....There I was in grade school saying the pledge of allegence....you might remember it to....
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all.
Remember?
I have often made the statement that I stay out of politics...and for the most part I do...but today things are different....
The America that is described in the pledge of allegiance is no longer the America that we live in. As a matter of fact...I wonder if anytime during the history of America it was ever the place described in the pledge, however the ideal stands...one that each and every one of us must do our best to practice.
As the Gay Marriage Bill Arrives on Arnold's desk in California, where he has, over and over again said he would veto it, and an Anti -Gay group disputes effects of a Florida Amendment which is nothing more than sheer sneakiness and politics at its worst...and a school expels a girl for having gay parents, all which stand for a miss-use of political as well as religious intention and integrity.
Back the pledge...which says "One nation under God"....Under God. Poor God...never except perhaps for the term love, has anything ever been so miss used.....
There is basically one simple profound teaching in the new testament, which for some reason, people over look...
Luke 10:25
25. On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
26. "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"
27. He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[c]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[d]"
28."You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."
This doesn't say, interpret the bible and use it as a weapon against others. It does not say to start wars with others and judge others as evil, as if to say evil exists only in "other" countries. It does not mean to decide whom people can love and be in a relationship with.
This is our responsibility! Our birth right, our legacy and even if our leaders fail to understand this concept and continue on the path of destruction, it is still our job to follow this principle.
There is a fight that needs to be fought and how that fight is fought is ultimately more important than even winning.
Many blessings to you!
Just a little FYI...the pledge of allegiance has not ALWAYS said "under God". That was not added to it until 1954. So, you may ALWAYS remember reciting it that way but there are still at least a couple of million Americans that learned a completely different version of the pledge. And you're right...it this case, with the pledge, it has been "misused"!
